The roots of Japan’s cutting-edge robotics can be traced back to the Edo era when skilled craftsmen created karakuri or Japanese automata.

 Using nothing more than pulleys and weight balances, they performed amazing tasks.  Hideki Higashino is one of the few craftsmen left who is determined to keep the history and tradition of karakuri alive.
